Good morning everyone! This week has been a rollercoaster ride, but we’re still here! The order of the day (and weekend) is self-care.
What can you do today, and this weekend, to take some time for rest and relaxation? For your body, mind, and spirit? You need a moment to rest (for healing) and restoration (to build up the energy for the coming week). Taking a pause from the daily hustle can help us receive the clarity we need, especially when it comes to making important decisions.
Rest can also be about taking a break from trying to “figure it all out”. Or taking a break from the intensity and drama from others, or even the intensity/drama you create.
Allow yourself to receive the support, comfort, and resources that you need. This happens faster when we step out of the way.
Rather than distract yourself with meaningless activities, engage in what feels fulfilling but also not something that would be considered a “chore” or work. For example, I love to draw or paint, and it’s something that feels fun and fulfilling to me. It also helps me to relax.
Make rest a priority; no one else will give you the time or space if you don’t hold it yourself. Not your family, not your children; only you can make rest happen. Rest doesn’t have to be a 1-hour nap. It can be closing your eyes for 5 minutes. It could be taking 3 deep breaths. It’s about allowing yourself the opportunity to rest. Allowing yourself the chance to relax.
Honor yourself.
If you have children and feel like they don’t give you a moment to rest or relax, find a way to teach them the importance of self-care. They will learn this from you, for when it’s their time to honor themselves.
Speaking of children, honoring yourself honors your inner child. Many of the intentions, actions, reactions, habits that we engage in now are echoes from the time when we were learning and observing our world. Soaking up every experience into our psyches. Teach your inner child a better way. Treat yourself the way you wish you could have been treated then. Treat yourself the way you wish you were being treated now.
Love yourself. Love yourself like you know how loved you are by the ones who love you most.
